is a pit bike smaller than a dirtbike or something? just wondering, 

Answer: 
A pitbike is a mini dirt bike. These days there are pit bike races and they call them fast 50's although they can have engines up to 125cc. But a 125cc pitbike wont go as hard as a 125cc motorcross bike, as is a completely different category. 

Pit bike is made for going slow, on streets and not for being abused. Dirtbike is ready for anything. 

There is no true definition of what a pit bike truly is, but by most standards it is a bike with a 10" or 12" rear wheel and a 4 stroke air-cooled engine.
